Cook Up New Culinary Arts Partnership
LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA – April 11, 2017
SOWELA Technical Community College and Nicholls State University entered into an agreement to empower Culinary Arts students to earn their bachelor’s degrees. The agreement between the two institutions enables SOWELA students who earn an associate’s degree in Culinary Arts to transfer to the Nicholls’ Chef John Folse Culinary Institute with the intent to earn a bachelor’s degree.
"As I think about what I’ll do when I graduate, the partnership with Nicholls State gives me the opportunity to add another tool to my culinary toolbox and expand my food style and skills,” said Kyle Verdin, SOWELA Culinary Arts student.
Dr. Neil Aspinwall, SOWELA Chancellor, and Dr. Bruce Murphy, Nicholls State President, were on hand to sign the agreement.
"SOWELA Culinary Arts is extremely excited to partner with the top-rated culinary arts program in the State.This agreement displays the progress SOWELA is making in the Culinary Arts program thanks to the visionary leadership of Chef Jerry Sonnier and his culinary team.Our graduates are guaranteed a jump start on their Bachelor of Science in Culinary Arts degree at Nicholls State University, and the agreement is a win-win for both institutions,” said Dr. David Shankle, Dean of the School of Business and Applied Technology.
SOWELA Technical Community College provides traditional, distance, and lifelong learning experiences and awards associate degrees, technical diplomas, and certificates that empower learners in transfer, career and technical education to excel as globally competitive citizens. The College has been educating the region’s workforce for more than 75 years.
